We are dedicated to meeting the exacting demands of IC production and satisfying the ion implantation needs of IC manufacturers worldwide. With over 3,300 state of the art high current, medium current, and high energy implanters installed throughout the world, Varian Semiconductor systems implant more than 5 million wafers each and every day -- more than all of our competitors combined.
What is Fusion?
Fusion is VSEA’s program which is designed to attract, assimilate, grow and retain the most talented engineers entering the industry today. In order to continue our domination in the ion implantation equipment market, we realize that we need to invest in our future technical leaders!
Overview of the Program
Recruiting
The process begins with VSEA’s recruiting efforts from academic institutions across the country, with particular focus on top engineering schools in the Northeast. Our goal is to identify and hire the top engineering talent entering the workforce today.
* Recruiting Schedule
What Skills are we looking for?
Answer is simple…well rounded, intelligent aggressive candidates with a passion for results and learning new things. Varian has learned that in order for us to continue to lead the marketplace, we need individuals with these characteristics to be on our team. This has proven to develop a successful team of future leaders as VSEA.
Rotational Work Assignments
During the first two years of employment at VSEA, program members will go through a series of rotational work assignments. This typically consists of three or four engineering assignments and one assignment in our manufacturing department. This invaluable experience allows members to learn all aspects of the business and determine where they fit best.
Engineering Rotational Assignments
These assignments can be in any VSEA engineering department and usually last between 6-8 months. Program members are given the opportunity to explore the wide variety of positions and opportunities within the engineering organization. These rotations help the employee and managers in determining where the employee may flourish in their regular position within Varian. Rotational assignments could include:
- Developing and running various engineering-disciplined FEA models and scenarios
- Engineering a thermal management strategy and system for our ion implanters
- Creating test stands for verifying designs prior to customer deployment
- Engineering VSEA-specific Mixed Signal circuits for use in our control system
- Designing and customizing aspects of the wafer handling system
…and many more opportunities yet to be created!
Manufacturing Rotational Assignment
What better way to become familiar with a product than to build it yourself! This assignment provides engineers with a hands-on learning experience working in our manufacturing department. Assignments could include
- Working with a manufacturing team to build assemblies that make up our implanters
- Testing either sections of the machine…or the whole thing to verify proper operation prior to shipping to a customer
- Traveling to a customer site virtually anywhere in the world to assist in install and test of a new machine
Member Mentoring
As a participant in the Fusion program you will have exclusive access to alumni mentors who will personally guide you through your first years at Varian, making themselves available for questions and guidance when you need it.
