VSEA recognizes that environmental stewardship means that recycling is almost always a better option than disposal. This is especially true for hazardous substances. Among these types of materials, we recycle toner cartridges, batteries, electronic equipment and Information Technology equipment.
The FY10 reduction in the amount of electronic & IT equipment is actually a result of a change in how VSEA recycles this material. In order to improve the value of this scrap material, we instituted greater source separation prior to recycling. This resulted in less material here, but more recycled metal; it also provided for much more efficient processing.
